November 16, 2018 (Villa Rica, GA) – With their best player struggling to score and another key starter out with a knee injury, junior Aliyah Hindsman scored 34 points to lead the Villa Rica Wildcats, No. 1 in the Sandy’s Spiel Class AAAAA preseason poll, to a 75-54 win over No. 6 Lithia Springs in an early season battle of defending region champions.

Villa Rica standout Deasia Merrill, who signed with the University of Kentucky on Thursday, made up for a tough shooting night by playing stellar defense and recording a number of assists with her crisp passing to teammates open under the basket.

The top ranked Wildcats got off to a hot start in their home opener by draining four three-point baskets to take a commanding 21-8 lead after the first quarter.

The No. 6 ranked Lions came roaring back in the next two periods with Lithia Springs getting to within eight points late in the third quarter.

Feeling the pressure, Villa Rica head coach Tammy Norred says her team turned up the defensive pressure in the final quarter when the Wildcats outscored the Lions 23-13.

Kyndal Coleman finished with 11 points for the Wildcats, Dekyia Cofield had 10 while Merrill finished with nine points.

Adaora Onuouela led Lithia Springs with 18 points and Sheryl Sarpong added 10 points.

Villa Rica (2-0) hopes to have senior Tae Windham back for their next game next Saturday against Johnson-Savannah at the Girls Night Out tip-off event in Carrollton.
